SUMALSAG CAVE

Catch your breath and watch your face against sharp formations above deep waters with very narrow space in between.

Name: SUMALSAG CAVE

Location: Sitio Kilabong, Vista Villa, Sumilao and Sitio Diamante, Dalirig, Manolo Fortich

Features: Sumalsag Cave is counted as one of the 5 recognized caves in Palaopao Range in the municipalities of Manolo Fortich and Sumilao in Bukidnon. Sumalsag Cave stretches to 1.04km long. Its usual caving route starts from Sitio Kilabong, Vista Villa, Sumilao and exits to Sitio Diamante, Dalirig, Manolo Fortich.

Water streams all along the 2-hour trail. The cave is so challenging. Narrow areas will make you walk like a duck and snake crawl. Other areas require rock climbing. Deep water will leave you no choice but to force yourself to swim.   

Master your skills in squatting and walking like a duck along this long trail. Worse, you also need to snake crawl.

Better learn to swim or use a floater if you don't want to trail back.

And there's no other way out of its narrow exit but to submerge in fishy water.

Submerge in water to get out or take another 2 hours back to the entrance.

How to Get There:

From CDO- Take a rural transit bus bound for Valencia or other southern routes (Kibawe, Wao, Banisilan, Kadingilan, Davao, Tacurong and Gensan). Drop off at Dalirig. Travel time takes around 1hour and 20minutes. Take a habalhabal to Sitio Kilabong. Take a 15-minute trek (1km) to the cave entrance.

From Malaybalay- Take a bus bound for CDO. Drop off at Dalirig. Travel time takes around 1hour. Take a habalhabal to Sitio Kilabong. Trek for 1km to the cave entrance.

Habalhabal Fare from Dalirig to Kilabong (Jump off): P40 each for 2 pax
Habalhabal Fare from Sitio Diamante (Exit) to Dalirig: P30 each for 2 pax

Guide Fee: P350.00 per group
Helmet Rental: P20.00

Others:

A dry bag is so essential.
Headlamp or flashlight is a must.
Helmet is needed if you don't want your head to be like a chopping board.
